Suggestion Box

About Suggestion Box

Everyone has a list of things a company should fix. Almost none of it ever reaches anyone who could act on it.

The problem

Feedback goes into a support ticket and disappears, or onto social media where it is one post among millions, or into a company's own feedback form where nobody outside the company will ever see it again. You never find out whether anyone read it, and you never find out whether other people want the same thing.

Meanwhile the company genuinely cannot tell the difference between one loud person and a thousand quiet ones, because the thousand quiet ones each complained somewhere different.

What this is

One public place to say what a company should fix or build, for any company, with a count next to it.

The count is the whole point. “One person emailed us about this” and “four hundred people are asking for this in public” are different facts, and only the second one moves anything.

What it will never do

  • No paid placement. A company cannot buy its way up a list, into the directory, or onto the homepage. Every company is listed on the same terms whether or not they have ever heard of us.
  • No removing suggestions for money. Nothing a company can pay for will take a suggestion down, hide it, or lower its count. This is enforced in the database, not just in policy.
  • No invented numbers. Every vote is a real account. There are no seeded suggestions, no bot accounts, no filler content to make a page look busier than it is. If a page is empty, it is empty.
  • No selling your data. See the privacy page for what is collected and who processes it.

Who runs it

One person, working on it part-time. It is new, and the honest state of things is that there is far more empty space here than content. That will change one suggestion at a time, and the first ones matter most.

Where it came from

A site called SuggestionBox.com existed around 2008 and got a few things badly wrong — most importantly, it sold companies the ability to be listed, which meant a visitor looking for a company that had not paid found nothing. That is the specific mistake this is built not to repeat.
